Spread the Love

Project: Spread the Love
Location, Date, and Time: Corner Brook Plaza, January 30th  2011, at 2pm

This project revolves around my idea of spirituality. To me, spirituality does not have to be religious, but can simply be feeling connected to the people and nature around you. I find that music creates powerful group energy, especially when it is live, or being played for everyone. When I’m in a crowd of people and there is music playing, I can’t help but dance up a storm and feel love for everyone around me.

I’ve decided to do a performance piece where I will dance in a crowded place to a song that I feel is one that many, if not all, people will enjoy. The song is four minutes long and is called: Say Hey (I Love You), by Michael Franti & Spearhead. I have chosen the Corner Brook Plaza Mall as my “crowded place” and I would like to do the dance on a Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm.

In my performance, I intend to change the atmosphere of the mall for a short but sweet amount of time- hoping that people will remember a group of strangers one day who danced the way they wanted down the crowded hall. I believe that we are all connected and if I can get a positive reaction and some smiles as I go along my dance, then that strengthens my idea of spirituality. I would like to get more people, who are also interested in performance art, in on this activity in hopes that they, too, will help me spread the love. Because the mall can sometimes be an acquisitive, anonymous place, it should be an interesting place to perform this kind of connective, friendly dance.

So, I am wondering if members of the Stockpile group would let me join, and also if they would like to join in on this performance. The dance is not choreographed, just a positive feel-the-music, feel-the-energy dance.

Thank-you
April White
