Counting to 100 (digits)

Counting to 100 (digits), Sandi Hartling

This performantive piece is about the correlation between numbers, the human body, and the evolution of language. The word “digit”, meaning both a numeral and a finger, comes from the act of counting on ones fingers. It is also the reason for the base 10 math system. By performing a simple and easily recognizable action (counting to 100 using my fingers), I hope to make a subtle connection between these two words and their relationship to the body, and enourage an appreciation for the history behind everyday things.

The performance will take place in August.
