Chalk/Walk
Chalk/Walk, the continuation of a series by local artist and educator Philip N. Robbins, who has partnered with artist Shawna Warmington to combine their two complimentary ideas. Chalk began in 2008 as random chalk “tagging” or graffiti-like images created by the artist along roads, walkways, and paths randomly distributed over time and space. Chalk 2009 was a public invitation to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador to go out, buy (or borrow) some chalk, and head out to the streets, sidewalks, parks, alleyways, etc and to draw. This year, Chalk/Walk keeps that idea of spontaneous roadside creation, but Shawna Warmington has brought to it her specific idea of large fields of colour adorning the sidewalks.
