Description:
On July 1st, the season kicks off with a blitz of artistic happenings in Corner Brook, NL, featuring Chalk 2009, a continuing series by local artist and educator Philip N. Robbins. The continuation of an idea started while the artist was a student at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College’s Visual Arts program, Chalk has re-emerged in 2008 as random chalk “tagging” or graffiti-like images created by the artist along roads, walkways, and paths randomly distributed over time and space. This year Chalk 2009 is a public invitation to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador to go out, buy (or borrow) some chalk, and head out to the streets, sidewalks, parks, alleyways, etc and to draw. Draw anything you want. Write your name. Draw with your family or your kids. Trace chalk outlines of yourself. Do something. Take an image of that artwork and upload it along with it’s location to your favorite website, blog, social networking site (Twitter, Facebook) , or image host (Flickr), then go to http://stockpilegroup.wordpress.com/projects/2009/chalk-2009/ and add your link to the blog. All submitted artworks will be added to the website and any exhibitions thereof. All artworks will be named based on the date and the person who created them (so please only submit your own work). The artwork will then be geotagged. The goal is to create a database, or interactive website, of the artworks tagged with the physical location (longitude and latitude) of where the drawing was created.
