Broadcasting Map

Every 50 steps during a walk, a pinch of yarrow seeds (Achillea millefolium), known in Sweden as röllika, will be dropped. The first walk will be around the Gotlandic countryside, while the second walk will be in the Kungsholmen area of Stockholm.

Mark Prier, a Corner Brook-based artist, will be performing his performance “Broadcasting Map” in the Väskinde-area of the island of Gotland in Sweden on July 21. The performance consists of Prier choosing a random trajectory mixing typical daily walks taken around the Gotlandic countryside. Every 50 steps, he will drop a pinch of yarrow (Achillea millefolium) seeds. In Sweden, yarrow is known as röllika.

Previously, this performance was done as a part of Public Acts, a cross-Canada performance series. This performance was Act 25: Experimentalism.

Prier’s performances have been featured at Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area, MUTEK Festival (Canada), Lost O (United Kingdom), and most recently as part of Stockpile (Atlantic Canada and Sweden). His artistic practice, which also involves video, installation, audio and performance work, has been exhibited across the country. More information can be found at www.markprier.com.
