About
It was in July and August 2008, when a number of artists based in Atlantic Canada presented themselves as Stockpile Artists Collective. A showcase, for a broad range of art practices, featuring emerging artists and established artists alike. Events, or ‘projects’, were held in a diverse range of locations, reaching from Corner Brook, McIvers, Gros Morne, Fogo Island, and St. Johnʼs, NL; to Charlottetown, PEI; and as far as Väskinde, Gotland, Sweden. 2009 was the collective’s second successful year, with two group exhibitions, multiple individual artistic projects, and an increase in the public’s awareness of Stockpile. Officially launching on July 1st 2010, Stockpile entered the third season of its annual showcase.
What is Stockpile Artists Collective?
Stockpile Artists Collective is a collaborative group of Atlantic Canadian artists who make art (visual, theatre, music, etc) throughout the year, whose efforts culminate in an annual summer arts festival. Our mission is to support the individual efforts of our members, to give artists a reason to create their work, and to give the general public new ways to engage with artists and the arts. The primary aims of the collective are to provide a banner under which a diverse assortment of events and artists can concentrate their efforts for ease of promotion, and to foster a community of artists who are engaging in dialogues both between themselves and the public.
Ongoing Call for Members
Stockpile is always looking for artists/performers who are interested in going out and doing something, anything, as big or small as they see fit. Stockpile events, or ‘projects’, have included art exhibitions, performance art, site-specific art, and installations.
How can you join?
To join Stockpile all we ask is that each member join our email list and then submit their event information to the group beforehand. The membership and organizers can offer assistance, and guidance, about promotion for individual projects both online and offline. It is really important that as a member you try to document your projects in some way as it happens. If you need any specific assistance Stockpile will do its best to help you.
Grassroots
It is important to note that Stockpile is not funded in any way beyond individual donations. Previously, some artists sought their own funding through agencies such as the PEI Council of the Arts and Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council.
